another must come to terms with his own demons if he is to meet early
promise and fulfill his fate. |

| In a small city in Austria, Thomas is an
artist who never made it out of town. Eccentric, self-indulgent, yet
wildly talented, he lives in hellish co-dependence with his controlling
sister Elisabeth. When he decides to break free, Elisabeth crafts
a cunning plot that at first backfires, then achieves the opposite
effect: after a lifetime of virtual slavery. But what he finds is
a betrayal so stark that his final descent into madness seems all
but sealed. With sharp performances and a sterling score, The Leaving
weaves together themes of art, family, and madness in an arresting
new way. |
