Over the last two years, cinemaficionado Norwood Cheek has held a monthly "open screen" session at Silver Lake’s lengendary music club, Spaceland. The program has developed into one of the city's most innovative showcases for Eastside filmmakers. The Best of Flicker showcases a satisfyingly eclectic collection of super 8 and 16mm shorts spanning a wide spectrum of style and content.

MAGAZINE (Dir: Dani Michaeli, 6 min.) collages frenetic dance and on-the-scene interview footage of the dazed and charming. THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH (Dir: Anne Pass, 4 min.), about the outskirts of circus life, is shot in the haunting style of Diane Arbus. JANE AND I (Dir: Song-hun Lee, 17 min.) is a fractured essay on the filmmaker’s relationship to blue-eyed Jane’s, from kindergarten to adolescence. ON THE PASSAGE OF A FEW (Dir: Mariana Botey, 16 min.) draws from Spanish Baroque to anarcho-punk, producing a fractured narrative about terror and the state. TAKE IT OUT ON THE CITY (Dir: Kimo Arbas, 2 min.) is an exploration of urban turmoil.

A mortician beautician falls in love in the humorous necrophilia-laced love story SYLVIA, (Dir: Trevin Matcek, 20 min.). GOD SAYS SO (Dir: Marjorie Kaye, 7 min.) is a sinister tale of sisterhood.
